Last year, Rev. Grant Storms of the Reformer Church was caught masturbating at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, Louisiana. After originally denying that he was masturbating, Storms came clean in his confession and called the act "a thrill" and noted that it was the third time that week he had masturbated there.
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, despite performing the act where many young children play, the local authorities found no reason to think he was a pedophile. Judge Ross LaDart of the 24th Judicial District Court sentenced Storms to three years probation, ordering no jail time because of a lack of criminal history.
"Lafreniere Park is a public place. Lafreniere Park is a place that was chosen by this defendant to engage in a history of masturbation."
During his confession, Storms told the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office that while taking a break from cutting grass, he used a beer bottle to urinate in, but felt "horny". During a press conference following his arrest, Storms blamed porn for his actions.
"Pornography is destructive and it can ruin a person's life, and it ruined my life," he said.
Rev. Grant Storms being arrested for exposing himself is ironic considering his past. Storms, who identifies himself as a "fundamentalist Christian patriot," made a name for himself over a decade ago by speaking out against the popular Mardi Gras event in New Orleans, LA. After speaking with fellow pastors, Storms took his video camera to the Southern Decadence event during Mardi Gras and filmed a few gay men exposing themselves and performing oral sex on each other.
According to ABC News, Storms took the tape to state Republican Rep. Danny Martiny who used the video to pass stricter laws for public sex.
