The 50-year-old man of Malaysia set himself on fire in front of his wife in their apartment after he learned that his wife had been having an affair with her female boss.
It is believed that the man, known as Lim, tried to commit suicide after he could not accept the shocking news that his wife was in a relationship with another woman.
The couple, who has been married for 18 years, have three children together between the ages of 8 and 18-years-old. According to police reports, the 18-year-old son was at home with his parents when the incident occurred.
The son was surfing the Internet in his room at 9:30 pm, when he heard his mother screaming. He ran out of the room and saw his father on fire. He tried to extinguish the flames with water from the bathroom.
Police initially thought that the woman set her husband on fire during the argument. But the son told police that his mother did not try to kill his father. The son said he suspects that his father was trying to kill himself, according to Assistant Commissioner Amiruddin Jamaluddin.
Police found no signs of a struggle or a suicide note.
The man was rushed to a local hospital. The man is in the intensive care unit, where remains in critical condition.
His wife, who had suffered some burns to her legs, was treated in the emergency room.
