United State Ultimatum to Nigeria
The US Government has given the Federal Government of Nigeria 90 days to ensure the security of its Ports. This was issued through the US Embassy in Nigeria. Does the US Government have the right to give the Nigerian government an ultimatum? Read full gist as you continue……
It will be recalled that Last year (2012) Officials of the US Coastguard, were in Nigeria to examine the implementation of the International Shipping and Port Facility Security, ISPS, Code.
Base on the visit, a report was addressed to Chairman of the Presidential Implementation Committee on Maritime Security, PICOMMS, the USA Coastguard expressed fear over the security lapses in the nation’s port and wondered what the government of Nigeria was doing to curtail criminal activities in the ports.
I believe the ultimatum is in connection with the visit.
There have been incessant pirate attacks on vessels in the Nigerian maritime industry due to unprotected waterside and facilities.
